An authentic late 19th to early 20th century mourning brooch, featuring an elongated navette form carved in black material, centered with a gilt starburst motif set with a seed pearl. The reverse is clearly stamped SAND S (Most commonly known as Sandberg & Sons) an early maker’s mark consistent with American jewelry production of the Victorian–Edwardian transition period.This piece exhibits period-correct construction including an extended pin stem and early C-catch, both indicative of manufacture prior to modern safety catches. The brooch is finely carved with a textured geometric surface typical of mourning jewelry worn during the late Victorian era.
