The Johnson Brothers' Old Britain Castles pattern was popular from 1930 to 2003 and is available in pink and blue colorways.The pattern depicts 45 different castles as they appeared in the 1700s, and was created by artist Miss Fennel using engravings and book photographs. After 2003 Johnson brothers was no longer produced in England.There is a wide array of pieces available with not only the pink & blue but also Lavender was added at some point.Having several different pieces of this pattern myself I do see there is a color difference in some of the same pieces and if you are familiar with this line you know for the Bowls and plates there are different backstamps throughout the time it was made.This piece depicts City of Exeterin 1793Overall this bowl is slightly towards the darker side of what I see in the majority of what I have had in hand myself. I do believe this is an earlier piece in the series. It is the only one I have seen that has Statement about decoration under the glaze.
