Rare 1945 Lionel 224 Loco & 2466W Whistling Tender Postwar O Gauge Up for auction is an early postwar Lionel O Gauge No. 224 Prairie 2-6-2 Steam Locomotive paired with a No. 2466W Whistling Tender. This set features the 1945 immediate postwar transition period locomotive, making it an excellent candidate for restoration, parts, or an operator layout. Rare Variety Elements: Variation A Square Cab Floor: This engine features the highly sought-after, sharp squared-off rear cab floor edge, utilizing leftover prewar factory die-cast molds before the 1946 rounded redesign. Prewar Wheel Castings: Equipped with the highly detailed prewar-style spoked driving wheels. Authentic Cast Plates: The original stamped aluminum "224" number plates below the cab windows are intact, crisp, and firmly attached. Please note: While the locomotive is a true 1945 model, the tender is a mixed-parts piece and does not feature original 1945 trucks. This set is being sold AS-IS, making it an excellent candidate for restoration, parts, or an operator layout. Condition: Operational Status: UNTESTED. This set is being sold strictly AS-IS for parts, repair, or display. Cosmetics & Structural Flaws (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY): Broken Locomotive Pilot: The front die-cast cowcatcher (pilot) is completely broken off and missing, exposing the front truck coil spring. Non-Original Tender Trucks: While the tender shell is a 2466W, neither truck on the tender is a 1945 original. It has been pieced together with mismatched parts: the front is a prewar stamped metal truck, and the rear is a later postwar staple-end truck with a coil coupler. Missing Jewel: The locomotive is missing the red jewel lens on the front right marker light. Linkage Issue: The eccentric rod (valve gear linkage) on the right side of the locomotive is disconnected and dangling; the small mounting screw/pin that attaches it to the crosshead is missing. General Wear: This set has been in long-term storage and features a heavy layer of original dust/patina. There is typical edge-wear on the black paint and some oxidation on the metal side rods and wheels. The tender wiring harness appears physically intact but is untested. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully, as they represent the exact items you will receive and highlight the damage and parts mentioned above.
