Up for sale is a captivating piece of history preserved by American fashion history. This vintage signed "LIDZ" brooch features a highly detailed, relief-struck replication of a 19th-century Napoleonic alliance commemorative medal. The front beautifully depicts the overlapping jugate profiles of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, Empress Marie Louise, and Emperor Francis I of Austria (her father).The Latin obverse lettering reads: "NAPOLEON EMP. ET ROI. M. L. IMP. ET R. FR. I. EMP. D'ALL."This translates to: "Napoleon Emperor & King, Marie Louise Empress & Queen, Francis I Emperor of Germany." The design originally celebrated the complex political and marital alliance forged during the French First Empire.The Lidz Brothers (Lidz Bros NYC) company was founded in New York City in 1895. Before establishing themselves as mid-century costume jewelry makers, they were renowned suppliers of high-end novelty buttons and historical garment accents. This piece beautifully bridges their heritage in stamped metalwork and historical fashion motifs.Excellent vintage condition with crisp, sharp details on all three facial profiles and crisp lettering.
