Antique Gorham G.M. Co. Sliding Mechanical 2-Picture Locket Brooch Pendant - Art Nouveau Martha Washington PortraitThis exceptional piece of wearable history combines fine Art Nouveau styling with an ingenious hidden mechanism. On the surface, the piece serves as an ornamental diamond-shaped brooch or pendant. It showcases a stunning, central circular miniature portrait of First Lady Martha Washington framed by mixed-metal repoussé scrollwork, stylized palmettes, and delicate dotted accents.Mechanical Sliding Photo CompartmentsThe magic of the piece lies in its hidden mechanical design. When gently slid outward, the two flanking circular side medallions glide smoothy along an interior metal track to reveal two hidden picture openings. These recessed photo wells still retain their original internal structural framing to securely showcase two family photographs, portrait miniatures, or sentimental hair keepsakes.Maker's Marks & AuthenticationOpening the sliding mechanism reveals the official antique manufacturer hallmarks stamped directly into the interior metal plates. It features the crisp "G.M. Co." (Gorham Manufacturing Company) maker's mark enclosed in an indented rectangular cartouche, alongside a tiny stamped production assay dot on the frame.Condition & SpecificationsDimensions:Approximately 1.75" wide when securely closed; extends significantly wider when the dual photo panels are pulled open.Material: Yellow gold-plated washed brass over a sturdy base alloy core, accented with contrasting silver-tone Art Nouveau palmette sweeps.Versatility:Features a fully functional rear pin stem and C-clasp to wear as a traditional brooch, alongside a durable built-in top loop bale to wear as a statement locket pendant on a necklace chain.Condition: Beautiful antique condition with a smoothly gliding sliding action, firm panel closure tension, and an authentic age patina to the metal finishes.Condition: Pre-Owned GoodBeautiful antique condition with a smoothly gliding sliding action, firm panel closure tension, and an authentic age patina to the metal finishes.
