Vintage 1964–1965 Korean DMZ 1st Cavalry Division 2d Brigade Custom Theater-Made Brass Presentation PlaqueNamed Officer: Major Andrew C. Johnson, USA (Ret.) (c. 1928 – 2017)Up for sale is a historically significant, custom "shop-bench" brass presentation plate crafted by a local artisan in South Korea for a departing U.S. Army Officer. This plate captures the absolute final months of the historic 1st Cavalry Division's post-Korean War defense mission along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). KEY HISTORICAL TIMELINE & VALUE FEATURES:The "Great Flag Swap" Cutoff (July 1965):The plate is hand-stamped with the exact parameters "DEC 64 KOREA JULY 65". July 1965 is highly significant in U.S. military history—it marks the exact month the Department of Defense transferred the 1st Cavalry Division flags to Fort Benning to deploy to Vietnam as an airmobile unit, overnight re-flagging the physical troops and assets left on the DMZ into the 2nd Infantry Division.Provenanced Officer History: Public records and registries confirm this plate belonged to Major Andrew C. Johnson, who completed this vital mid-career field service at Camp Howze. Following a distinguished military career, Major Johnson passed away in 2017 at the age of 88 and was laid to rest with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.Complete Enameled Insignias: All five period-authentic, uniform-grade cloisonné/champlevé enameled Distinctive Unit Insignias (DUIs) are fully intact and torch-fused to the brass with original soft-lead solder bleeding visible along the borders.
