Shot with four cameras, RICHARD THOMPSON LIVE IN PROVIDENCE features a visually stunning recording of a concert from 2003's THE OLD KIT BAG tour as well as rare footage spanning 20 years of Thompson's career. THE OLD KIT BAG, released in 2003, was Thompson's first solo release in more than 20 years, and recognized as a major highlight of his career. Growing up in England in the 1950s, Thompson was influenced by an eclectic array of musicians, ranging from jazz legends to early rock & roll stars like Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis. As a widely celebrated player in the British Rock scene of the 1960s, Thompson first gained popularity as a member of Fairport Convention, who produced groundbreaking albums such as 1969's LIEGE AND LIEF. Going on to release several solo albums and critically acclaimed collaborations with then-wife Linda Peters, Thompson has had one of the most unique and interesting careers in the industry. Displaying great versatility, Thompson has shared the stage with legendary performers like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Classics like Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black lightening" have been covered by artists such as David Byrne, REM, Mary Lou Lord, and Shawn Colvin.
