Overview:This is an authentic vintage 1960s-1970s Chinese 3D cork carving diorama depicting the historic Hangzhou White Cloud Hermitage along the shores of West Lake. Hand-carved from fine sheets of cork, this intricate panoramic landscape is mounted against a teal silk brocade textile border and housed in its original wooden shadowbox frame.Dimensions:Frame size: 59 cm x 23 cm (Approx. 23.25" x 9")Condition Notes:Front: The carved cork landscape elements remain remarkably intact with beautiful, sharp details. There is a visible horizontal tear in the background paper along the bottom-left waterline.Interior: A few small cork fragments have dislodged (aging adhesive?) and is currently resting against the inside corner of the frame.Reverse: The original brown backing paper is dry, brittle, and torn on the right side, exposing the inner wood structure. The original hanging twine is present but snapped; eyelet screws are attached.This piece is an excellent candidate for a simple restoration or can be displayed as-is to preserve its mid-century export history.--These items are part of an estate from a collector and carpenter by trade (descended from other crafts-persons, mostly in Connecticut).
