Up for sale is a compelling, museum-grade piece of American primary-source history. This listing features an original 2-page handwritten archive (spanning four complete sides of text) dated November 8, 1925. The letters are written on the official graphic stationery of the historic Hotel Pershing in Miami, Florida, and come complete with the original postmarked envelope addressed to Columbus, Ohio.Written at the absolute peak of the legendary 1920s Florida Land Boom, this correspondence provides a raw, unedited window into the daily life, extreme hyperinflation, infrastructure collapse, and prevailing socio-political viewpoints that defined the era. The author, A.R. Holmen, breaks down localized conditions under clear thematic headings:Graphic Hotel Pershing Stationery & Provenance: The letterhead features a crisp architectural illustration of the historic Miami hotel building with early 1920s automobiles lining the street. The bottom margin includes a rare printed advertisement for the F.M. Brown Real Estate Office, which specialized in speculative Everglade lands. The matching envelope bears a clear Miami postmark (Nov 9, 1925) and a green 1-cent George Washington postage stamp.Economic Hyperinflation: A brilliant economic record noting that their hotel room which cost $2.00 two years prior had jumped to $5.00 a day, with a warning that the price would hit a staggering $10.00 after the new year. Food is also documented as highly expensive, with fresh eggs costing 75 to 85 cents a dozen.Infrastructure & Logistics Crisis: Documents a city physically overwhelmed by its own rapid expansion. The writer details downtown streets completely blocked by building materials, passenger trains running 5 to 6 hours late, and a massive maritime bottleneck where cargo ships are forced to wait out in the ocean because the harbor could not handle the shipping volume.Regional Socio-Political Reflections: In a striking transition on the final two pages, the author shares deep personal commentary on post-Civil War regional dynamics, the legacy of slavery, and the future of the South. The letter touches directly upon contemporary 1920s racial anxieties, eugenics-era theories regarding demographic shifts, and explicitly references the famous political rumor of the decade regarding President Warren G. Harding's ancestry.Condition Note: This nearly 100-year-old paper ephemera archive is in beautiful, crisp vintage condition. The handwriting is dark, bold, and exceptionally easy to read throughout all four pages. The document displays standard original mailing fold lines and very minor edge handling. The envelope has some edge wear and other age-related wear on the seal side. Please see the photos for condition details. Sold As-is.CHARITY DONATION NOTE:Please note that 100% of the final sale proceeds will directly support the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, converting an unfiltered artifact of historical prejudice into tangible support for racial justice and equality today.
