This is a vintage salt-glazed gray and blue stoneware pottery mug crafted by Westerwald Pottery, a renowned studio located in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania. The incised signature on the base belongs to Phil Schaltenbrand, the master potter and founder of the studio. He is well-known for his handwritten, cursive script marks, and the numbers " 00 " verify that this custom commemorative mug was hand-thrown in the year 2000.Westerwald Pottery specializes in traditional 19th-century style cobalt blue-and-gray salt glaze stoneware. The studio frequently creates these custom "town mugs" featuring cobalt slip lettering—in this case, celebrating Powhatan—paired with their signature brushed oak leaf motif.4 inches high / 3 inches wide
