Up for auction/sale is a premium 1966 Special Mint Set (SMS) Lincoln Memorial Cent. These coins were produced by the San Francisco Mint during a transitional period (1965–1967) when traditional Proof Sets were suspended. Struck on specially prepared planchets with polished dies, this SMS specimen features the characteristic satin-like finish and a sharper strike than standard business issues.Visual Technical Analysis• Obverse Features the right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The date "1966" and the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" are crisp and well-defined, typical of a professional SMS strike.• Reverse Displays the Lincoln Memorial with sharp architectural lines. The "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" lettering shows excellent separation from the fields.• Color & Luster: Retains a strong Red (RD) designation with over 95% original mint luster. The surfaces exhibit a brilliant, semi-reflective quality unique to the Special Mint Set series.
