Antique Hedman F&E Check-Writer Model M This is a wonderful, heavy industrial antique mechanical check writer manufactured by The Hedman Manufacturing Co. in Chicago, Illinois. Featuring a robust cast iron body, dial levers, a sliding indicator bar, and a large manual stamp handle, this machine is a beautifully engineered relic of early 20th-century banking and office security. With its striking distressed aesthetic and crisp embossed text, it makes an ideal rustic decor piece, industrial bookend, or historical display prop for collectors of antique office machinery and financial history. Product Details: Manufacturer: The Hedman Mfg. Co. (Chicago, ILL., U.S.A.) Model: Model M Serial Number: No. 143501 (visible on the original base plate label) Patented Date: Features an embossed patent date of Oct. 14, 1919. Mechanism: Classic manual pull-down lever action with multi-column dollar and cent dial toggles. Condition Report: Cosmetic Wear & Patina: The piece is in authentic, unrestored antique condition. It features a heavy, dark patina with substantial surface rust, paint chipping, and flaking across the main handle, side casing, and base plate. Decals & Text: The gold lettering on the top curved plate reading "F&E CHECK-WRITER" remains clearly legible despite minor surface wear. The instructions label on the front lower base reads "Keep machine well inked - instructions and ink inside of base" and remains highly readable around the serial stamp. Mechanical Functionality: The main spring-loaded stamping arm pulls down and returns smoothly when pressed. The side mechanical crank arms move when pushed. The mechanical dial levers slide across their tracks but may require deep cleaning, oiling, or minor servicing if intended for functional use.
