This is a remarkable piece of documented West African folk art: a hand-carved, lidded Calabash (Gourd) bowl from Benin City, Nigeria.What makes this piece truly special is the original historical label preserved on the base. It identifies the piece as belonging to or gifted by Reigel E. Edukugho, a Regional Organizer for the Young Farmers' Club under the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Mid-Western Nigeria.Key Features:Artisanship: Features traditional Nigerian chip-carving and pyrography. The lid has a beautiful "starburst" pierced design, originally intended for airflow (perfect for potpourri or incense).Historical Provenance: The rare, intact label provides a direct link to the agricultural and social history of Benin City in the mid-20th century.Material: Natural dried gourd. It is incredibly lightweight with an earthy, organic texture.Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
