Social History: Sent from the military base at Saint-Cyr by a soldier mobilized into the 21ème C.O.A. (Commis et Ouvriers d'Administration) Bakery Unit, tasked with preparing food logistics for oncoming troops.<br><br>It was written on August 30, 1939—exactly two days before Nazi Germany invaded Poland on September 1, and four days before France declared war on September 3. The phrase "nous attendons patiemment les événements" (we are waiting patiently for events to unfold) perfectly captures the tense, uncertain calm right before the storm of global mobilization.
