This postcard captures a scenic landscape view looking up the historic Valency Valley in Boscastle, Cornwall, England. The Valency Valley holds immense literary significance as the setting where famed English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy met his first wife, Emma Gifford, in 1870 while he was working as an architect restoring the nearby St. Juliot Church. The valley directly inspired much of his early romantic poetry and his novel A Pair of Blue Eyes. The back of the card features a promotional tagline encouraging conservation: "Join the National Trust and help to preserve Boscastle." This details the post-war history of the British National Trust acquiring and safeguarding the rugged North Cornwall coastline from overdevelopment, preserving its natural habitats and steep wooded valleys for public leisure.Size: Continental 6 x 4"Era: Modern Era (circa 1970s)Condition: Minor edge wearThis is an authentic vintage item.
