This listing is for a unique lot of three vintage European travel postcards from the 1970s. They offer a wonderful window into mid-20th-century tourism, family relationships, and personal social histories across Europe.Pisa, Italy: "August 3rd, 1972: After apologizing for the lateness of the card, I must apologize for not writing these cards—mainly due to economics. Anyway After spending 2 days in Pisa, we hitch-hiked to Florence, which is a really splendid place, and we have spent today the day visiting the various galleries. Love from Jane"Steinhausen, Germany: "Dear Auntie Elsie & Uncle Raymond, I have had a lovely time. The weather has been reasonable we have had a few thunder storms but it has sunshined most of the time. In Germany we stopped to see a lovely church. I bought this postcard for you to see how lovely it is. I enjoyed the black forest too. We are going to a fairy tale castle and Venice later on. I hope you are enjoying your holiday too. Love Sharon xxxxx"Saint-Omer, France: "I just had to photocopy this for you—I am sure you said your mother had told you this story—she would have been a little girl then but would have heard people talking about it & I am sure it would have been quite near. I didn't realize who the girls were. I am sure Rev. Charles would have known Ralph Wilde—Oscar's uncle who was a neighboring cleric for a while. I meant to give you the magazine on Saturday but couldn't find it—what wonderful get ups! I have finished the quilt. It really looks jolly & I shall take some photos of it so you can see—I just trimmed the spotted back over & made a quilted spotty edging—very effective. Hope P & P have good weather in Prague rather wet here today.
