This is not your usual white, round-face, low-relief moon person. This is most definitely a female, and she's carved in high relief. I bought this back for my mother in the 1980's or 90's, at a craft fair in South Georgia. I wish i knew who carved it.... if you do, pls message me. Hanging from a 1/2" sterling bale (not marked), the carving is 1.5+by itself. Artisan carved.At any rate, this is a woman of color. And look at how intricately she is carved! You can count almost every hair, and the flower petals are so distinct and deep. And how 'bout that side-eye??? You will never see another one like this, for sure! Made of bone, or maybe shell, I'm not sure I remember which. The little schmootzy place on the back may help you figure that out. It's not marked or signed; that is just a part of the natural marking of the bone (I think), and proves that this is an artisan piece. You'll never find another.
