Rare Vintage Friedrich Schiller Gallerie hardback book with 21 illustrationsSchiller Gallery. Based on original cartons by Wilhelm von Kaulbach. [Schiller-Gallerie. Nach Original-Cartons von Wilhelm v. Kaulbach. In German]. Munich: Verlagsanftalt fur Kunst und Wissenschaft vormals Friedrich Bruckmann, [after 1870]. [4], 88 p., 21 l. ill. 22.7×16.5 cm. The illustrations by Wilhelm von Kaulbach and other artists in the publication are reproduced photographically. Each page has text in a linear frame. Publisher's calico binding, triple gold edging. Scuffed binding, cracks at the base of the spine, the last mud. it falls out of the block, the pages are mostly blank. The album includes 20 reproductions of paintings by Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805): Mary Stuart; The Maid of Orleans; The Robbers, Don Carlos and others. The last illustration (21st) shows Schiller in a circle of friends. Wilhelm von Kaulbach (1805-1874) was a German artist, one of the most significant representatives of the academic trend in German art during the historicism period of the second half of the 19th century. He worked in the genres of portrait and historical painting, as well as in the field of monumental murals and book illustration. Please see photos.
