The 1979-S 10 Cent Roosevelt Dime was minted at the San Francisco Mint, a historic institution known for its high-quality coin production since 18541. The San Francisco Mint, often referred to as the “Granite Lady,” has a rich history of producing coins that are highly sought after by collectors. This particular dime is a proof coin, meaning it was struck with specially prepared dies and planchets to ensure a high-quality finish.A Deep Cameo (DCAM) designation is given to proof coins that exhibit a strong contrast between the frosted design elements and the mirrored background fields2. This effect is achieved through multiple strikes with polished dies, resulting in a coin that has a striking, almost black-and-white appearance. The deep cameo finish enhances the visual appeal of the coin, making it a prized piece for collectors.Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coins are those that have never been in circulation and retain their original mint luster3. These coins are typically graded on the Sheldon scale, with BU coins generally falling within the MS60-MS70 range. The 1979-S 10 Cent Roosevelt Dime in PR69DCAM is a brilliant uncirculated coin, meaning it has been preserved in its original condition and displays no signs of wear.In terms of rarity, the 1979-S 10 Cent in PR69DCAM is relatively common, with many examples available for collectors4. However, there are only a limited number of these coins graded higher, specifically in PR70DCAM. According to PCGS, there are 1,000 coins graded higher than PR69DCAM5. This makes the PR69DCAM grade a desirable option for collectors who want a high-quality coin without the premium price of a PR70DCAM.The Type 1 designation refers to the style of the “S” mint mark on the coin. The Type 1 mint mark is characterized by a filled, or blobby-looking “S,” while the Type 2 mint mark, introduced later in 1979, features a clearer and more defined "S"6. This distinction can affect the coin’s value and desirability among collectors. You should consider buying the 1979-S 10 Cent PCGS PR69DCAM Type 1 today because it represents a combination of historical significance, exceptional quality, and affordability. As a proof coin with a deep cameo finish, it offers a visually stunning addition to any collection. Additionally, its relatively high population in PR69DCAM means you can acquire a top-tier coin without breaking the bank. Investing in this coin today ensures you own a piece of numismatic history that will continue to be appreciated by collectors for years to come.
