Late 1970s Woolrich Arctic Parka with a fascinating history. What elevates this jacket from a standard piece of vintage gear to a true collector's item is the original, authentic "Antarctic Cruising Expedition – The World of Lindblad Travel" patch embroidered on the right chest. Lars-Eric Lindblad is universally celebrated as the "father of eco-tourism." In 1966, he led the first-ever citizen exploration expedition to Antarctica, later building the ice-strengthened MS Lindblad Explorer to bring travelers and conservationists to the world's most remote polar regions. Passengers and crew on these historic sub-Antarctic voyages were outfitted with the absolute best American cold-weather gear available. This jacket was either issued to or purchased by an individual on one of those legendary early expeditions, making it a genuine artifact of polar travel history. Weather-Proof Shell: Vibrant red, tightly woven 65% Polyester / 35% Cotton blend for excellent wind and water resistance. Premium Insulation: Lined with genuine 3M Thinsulate Thermal insulation for maximum warmth without the bulk. Rare Detachable Hood: Includes the original matching hood that attaches via a heavy-duty Velcro strip under the collar. Features wrap-around face/neck flaps and a drawcord with chunky wooden barrel toggles.
