This 8" French Dressing bottle was used as "premium packaging" in the 1940s and is a rare survivor from the Goodman Bros. of Meriden, Connecticut. The Goodman Bros. sold various items in high-quality art pottery instead of disposable glass. This #133 "Master Ewer" was designed to be used at the dinner table and then kept forever as a decorative keepsake.Design & Color:Rare Sky Blue Crackle: While most Goodman Bros. premiums were produced in ivory, this piece features a stunning Pastel Sky Blue (Vista Blue) glaze.The "Drip-Stop" Edge: Note the distinctive sharp "stepped" ridge near the taper of the neck. This was a functional design choice to break the surface tension of oil-based dressings, preventing drips while pouring at the table.Art Deco Influence: The high-arched integrated handle and geometric shoulder represent the classic transition from Art Deco to Mid-Century Modernism.Size: While standard bottles would typically by 5" tall, this bottle is of the larger "master" size, at 8" tall. Markings: Incised "133" on the base with the authentic "dry foot" (unglazed) rim.
