A woman is begging in the pine needles. Black gloved hands come into view. They hold pliers. That is the first paragraph on the back of this book, and it is not easing you into anything. Meet Caleb Everett. Successful artist, and every day of his life a film runs in his head that he did not ask for: murder, in real time, from inside the killer's head. He has had it since he was a child. Now he works it alongside a veteran homicide detective named Jack Rafferty, using the worst thing about himself to tip the scales back toward justice. Then the new case turns and starts looking at him. There is a killer hunting Caleb, a journalist named Makayla Dawson standing in the blast radius, and a clock. The cover says it cleaner than I can: if you have murder in mind, he'll know. T.J. Spade wrote it. Trade paperback, blue slashes of paint on the cover with the title in cold silver. Condition, straight, and both photos show it: this one has been read. There is a pale crease running down the back cover parallel to the spine, whitened where the ink rubbed through, and you can see its fainter twin down the front hinge. Spine roll, plainly. The bottom-left front corner is lifting a little from the block with a light rubbed line along the bottom edge. The covers are otherwise bright and the paint art still pops. I did not photograph the spine face or the interior, so I am not going to make claims about either. Ships within 2 business days, or free pickup in Gorham.
