Antique Early Celluloid / Heavy Composition Crazed Cue Ball – Circa 1900s–1930sThis extraordinary cue ball exhibits a rich butterscotch patina and all-over spiderweb micro-crazing that makes it a standout piece for cabinets of curiosities, antique sporting collections, or industrial decor displays.Based on its deep amber color and marble-like texture, this ball is believed to be an early survivor from the birth of synthetic plastics. The celluloid ball, designed as an ivory replacement, mixed nitrocellulose with heavy inorganic fillers (like bone dust, silica, and heavy mineral pigments). The interlocking crackle network develops naturally over a century as the organic camphor plasticizers slowly outgas.Lore tells of saloon games ending with a literal bang thanks to volatility of nitrocellulose. Rest assured, this historic specimen is perfectly stable as historic decor for your bookshelf or game room — just keep it off the fireplace mantle!Item Details & SpecificationsEra: Circa 1900s – 1930s (estimated)Material: Early Nitrocellulose / Celluloid Heavy Mineral CompositeSpecs: 164 grams; 2-1/4 inches (standard regulation)Color Profile: Deep Aged Butterscotch / Amber CreamSurface Texture: Intricate, all-over spiderweb micro-crazing with a smooth molded sheenIdentification Disclaimer: The material composition (celluloid/nitrocellulose) and estimated era has not been independently tested or formally authenticated though are believed accurate based on physical research and historical wear patterns. Measurements are estimated though appear to confirm a regulation sized ball. The lens perspective in the photos make the ball appear slightly larger alongside the ruler.Condition: This piece exhibits heavy, authentic vintage patina and structural integrity. The entire surface is covered in a dense network of micro-crazing and fine crackle lines with age-darkened patina embedded within the fissures. While the ball shows scratches and minor defects, it remains solid and intact without flaking or deep structural chips. Uncleaned to preserve its genuine historic surface finish and color shift.Shipping: Items are carefully padded and packed to survive shipping. Upgraded service and insurance provided as feasible. Certain locations (such as HI or AK) or P.O. boxes may incur additional cost.
