Very good pre-owned condition. No markings or coloring in book. Firm stapled binding. See photos for more details. This copy of The Story of The Lost Colony of Roanoke: to read, to draw, to color is a piece of mid-century Virginia educational ephemera published in 1952 by RM Usry out of Williamsburg, Virginia. It is part of the American Sketches for the Very Young series (Book #5). The oblong booklet measures approximately 12 inches by 9 inches and is a surviving sketch book featuring completely clean, untouched, and uncolored pages with no crayon, pencil, or ink markings. The text was crafted by prominent Williamsburg historian Helen Jones Campbell. The line illustrations by Mem Lemay were adapted directly from Governor John White’s famous 1585 primary source watercolors as compiled in Stefan Lorant's landmark 1946 work, The New World. The back cover includes a complete 5-book series checklist listing the creators as Helen Jones Campbell and Stephen Lorriant's New World, making this 74-year-old artifact a prized find for collectors of vintage children's books, North Carolina and Virginia colonial history, or unique Americana.
