Marlitt Up for purchase is a beautiful, complete antique edition of the classic German novel "Das Geheimnis der alten Mamsell" (The Old Maid's Secret) by the celebrated 19th-century author E. Marlitt. Published by the historic Union Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft (Stuttgart, Berlin, Leipzig), this collectible volume features a striking, vibrant red cloth cover adorned with elegant, ornate gold/gilt stamped typography and decorative scrollwork on both the front cover and the spine. The interior text is printed in classic German Fraktur (blackletter) script and includes a fascinating multi-page publisher's catalog at the rear showcasing other popular German romances of the era (W. Heimburg and E. Werner). A wonderful addition to any collection of antique European literature, decorative book stacks, or German-language historical fiction. Condition Report: Please review the high-resolution photos carefully to assess condition, as they form part of the description. Cover & Spine: The red cloth remains vibrant with strong, bright gold leaf embossing on the front and spine. The spine shows minor softening at the top and bottom edges. There are a few small, scattered white/light marks and faint blemishes on the front and back boards. Binding & Spine Interior: Please note that while the external binding feels stable, there is a minor internal split/separation along the interior hinge gutter at the rear endpapers (see detailed photo). However, all pages remain attached and the text block is secure. One interior page edge shows a tiny, minor closed tear at the margin that does not impact the text. Edges & Pages: The page edges are naturally darkened/tanned consistent with age, showing a uniform golden-brown patina. Interior: The pages show standard age-related toning/browning but remain crisp, highly legible, and free of writing or heavy foxing.
