Vintage mid-century hand-carved and painted wooden novelty nutcracker featuring a charming winking "HMS" sailor design, made in Japan. HOW IT WORKS: Place a nut inside the sailor's wide-open mouth, then twist the threaded wooden base screw from the bottom to apply pressure until the shell cracks cleanly. CONDITION FOR THIS SPECIFIC PIECE: - Pre-owned vintage condition with excellent mid-century character. - The hand-threaded wooden screw mechanism is completely intact and functions smoothly. - Paint Condition: Shows visible cosmetic paint chipping and loss on the white top surface of the sailor's cap as shown in the photos. The black paint band, "HMS" lettering, red nose, and eyes remain highly visible and sharp. - No major structural splits, chips, or cracks to the main carved wood body.
