During the 1940s, Dateland served as a critical hub supporting Camp Horn and Camp Hyder, two prominent divisions of General George S. Patton’s vast Desert Training Center. Located approximately 10 to 13 miles away, these desert camps housed over a million troops for North African combat. Don's note records a soldier’s prized excursion away from camp to relax by Dateland's palm-shaded pool.Scene: This card showcases the famous oasis at Dateland, Arizona along historic U.S. Route 80.
