Vintage Dutch heraldic pewter decorative charger / wall plate featuring an elaborate raised coat-of-arms design. The central shield depicts a heraldic animal holding or associated with a pair of scales, surrounded by ornate mantling and topped by a helmet and bird/eagle-like crest. The back retains an older paper label reading “MADE IN HOLLAND.” There is handwriting on the label that appears to read “Paul Maas”; the significance of this handwriting is unknown and it is not being represented as a maker’s mark or artist signature. Approximate measurements: Diameter: approx. 9–9.5 inches Weight: approx. 1 lb 4.6 oz The piece has not been polished and retains its aged surface and patina. There are areas of oxidation/discoloration, spotting, scratches and other signs of age and previous display/use. Felt pads are present on the reverse. No identifiable manufacturer’s hallmark has been found. Exact age, metal composition, heraldic family/organization and maker are unknown.
