Antique c.1926 Delaware River Bridge Philadelphia Letter Opener – D. Peres Germany – With Sheath Unusual antique souvenir/advertising letter opener featuring a detailed image of The Delaware River Bridge, the historic Philadelphia–Camden suspension bridge now known as the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The metal handle is decorated with a raised image of the bridge and the wording “THE DELAWARE RIVER BRIDGE.” The blade is marked: JOHN J. GRIFFIN & CO. PHILADELPHIA, PA. The reverse bears a D. PERES / GERMANY marking. The Delaware River Bridge opened in 1926. Based on the original bridge name, design and markings, this piece appears consistent with the late-1920s period and is being described as circa 1926 rather than representing 1926 as a confirmed manufacture date. Includes the fitted vintage sheath shown in the photographs. Approximate length: 8 3/4 inches overall. This is an interesting crossover collectible for collectors of Philadelphia memorabilia, Benjamin Franklin Bridge/Delaware River Bridge history, vintage advertising items, German D. Peres pieces and antique letter openers. CONDITION Pre-owned antique condition with substantial age-related wear. The letter opener has scratches, surface oxidation/tarnish, discoloration, finish loss and other signs of age and use. The sheath is heavily aged and shows staining, scuffing, surface deterioration and general wear. No attempt has been made to polish or restore the piece. Please enlarge and carefully examine all photographs. Photos are considered an important part of the description and show the exact item and condition you will receive. No claims are made regarding the exact manufacture year beyond the approximate period stated above. Sold as shown.1834
