This one stopped me in my tracks. I collect a lot of old silver and stone jewelry, but every once in a while I come across something that feels less like jewelry and more like a little surviving piece of another era.This beautiful sterling silver and carved carnelian bracelet appears to date to the early 20th century and has the wonderful characteristics associated with Chinese Export jewelry of the Art Deco period.And the carnelian work is incredible.Rather than using matching plain stones, the bracelet is made up of several completely different carved carnelian elements. Two large translucent orange discs are deeply carved and pierced with floral motifs. Smaller glowing carnelian stones sit between the larger stations.And then there is that centerpiece…A deep reddish carnelian medallion carved in intaglio with a classical profile portrait. It almost feels like an ancient seal or archaeological treasure worked into the bracelet.The stones are individually held in old-fashioned prong settings and joined by substantial silver loops, giving the bracelet wonderful movement and that unmistakable hand-assembled character you see in older jewelry.The carnelian itself ranges from fiery translucent orange to deep brick red, and the color becomes absolutely beautiful when light passes through it.Details:• Sterling silver• Genuine carved carnelian• Early 20th-century / Art Deco character• Chinese Export style
