(IDI)Year of Publication: 1982Format: Hardcover, 92 pages, featuring historical maps, illustrations, and archival photographs.Historical Significance & Scope:This is 1982 first edition hardcover copy of Montebello at Mount Eagle by regional historian Nan Netherton. This book was not printed for mass commercial bookstore retail. Instead, it was commissioned directly by International Developers Inc. (IDI) as they began breaking ground on the Montebello condominium complex near Alexandria, Virginia. Rather than a promotional booklet, Netherton was engaged and produced a researched, academic-grade monograph documenting the heritage of this specific 35-acre tract of land in Fairfax County.Key Historical Content Covered:The Colonial & Revolutionary Era: Deep lineage research into the historic Mount Eagle Mansion, the historic estate built by Bryan, the 8th Lord Fairfax, who was a lifelong close friend and neighbor of George Washington. The Civil War Era: Documentation of the land's transition into a strategic fortification and military site overlooking the Potomac. The 20th Century Transition: Tracking the land's life from the early 1900s, through its tenure as a country club, up to its 1980s transition into a modern luxury high-rise community. This is an essential addition for collectors of Northern Virginia, Fairfax County, and Alexandria historical literature. It holds incredible value for local genealogists, regional historians, or residents of the Montebello community who wish to own a signed primary archive of their neighborhood's foundational history.Super fast shipping - we ship out the next business day.
