Unusual Set of 5 Graduated Metric Measuring Vessels / Tankards Offered here is a very interesting matched/grouped set of five heavy metal measuring vessels in graduated sizes. The pieces have cylindrical bodies, flared pouring rims/spouts, substantial geometric handles, raised bases and various stamped markings. Several handles are clearly marked with metric capacity terminology including DECILITER and LITER. The vessels also display rows of small individual stamped symbols/letters/numbers around the bodies. One piece additionally carries a shield/crest-style emblem. These markings appear consistent with identification, capacity and/or verification-type marks, but their exact meaning has not been authenticated. The set has a wonderful dark gray/gray-brown aged surface with considerable natural-looking patina and oxidation. We have intentionally not polished or aggressively cleaned the pieces. The metal is quite substantial for the size. A simple household magnetic check was performed using a magnetic watch band; the vessels themselves did not appear to attract the magnet. This test is provided only as an observation and is not a professional metal identification test. The material visually resembles an old pewter-type or other non-ferrous metal/alloy, but metal composition has not been tested and is not guaranteed to be pewter. Various markings photographed on the pieces include metric capacity wording such as: DECILITER LITER as well as numerous small stamped characters/symbols. Please use the close-up photographs to evaluate these marks for yourself. APPROXIMATE WEIGHTS Individual pieces were weighed on a household digital scale. Approximate readings recorded: Largest: 2 lb 3.5 oz Next: 1 lb 4.7 oz Next: 11.5 oz Next: 7.0 oz Smallest: 4.4 oz Weights are approximate and provided for reference only. AGE / ORIGIN / MATERIAL The exact age, manufacturer, country of origin and metal alloy are unknown. The construction, metric capacity markings, crest/emblem, extensive stamped marks and aged appearance suggest these may be older European measuring vessels, possibly trade or capacity measures. However, we have not located documentation sufficient to conclusively attribute or date this particular set. Therefore they are being sold as unidentified collectible measuring vessels, exactly as photographed, rather than with a guaranteed historical attribution. CONDITION DETAILS All five pieces are in as-found, unrestored condition. Expect age/use-related: surface oxidation and patina; scratches and scuffs; darkening and discoloration; small marks, dings and irregularities; casting/manufacturing imperfections; wear to stamped markings; wear and oxidation around handles, rims, bases and seams. Some construction seams/joints are visible. Because of the age and unknown history, we make no representation regarding suitability for measuring liquids, food service, drinking, or any other functional use. Sold as a collectible/display set only. The pieces have not been tested for lead or other metal content and should not be assumed food-safe. No polishing or restoration has been performed.
