Framed advertising handbill headed “WONDERFUL SCIENCE,” promoting “DR. BAKER, Phrenologist and Soul Reader.” The advertisement describes Baker as a poet, scientist, and phrenologist, offering examinations of adults’ and children’s heads, mind reading, and advice concerning health, happiness, and prosperity. A handwritten-style location entry reads “The Central House — Danville.” The state is not specified. Whether this entry was separately handwritten or reproduced within the printing has not been determined. Advertised prices include: Phrenological examinations: 50 cents. Examinations with a chart or by “Soul Reading”: $1.00. Private parlor readings: $2–$5 per evening.
