Two-piece Japanese lotus lantern display consisting of a spherical openwork metal lantern globe and a carved dragon-and-wave wood stand. The lantern globe is attributed as Japanese based on a very close documented auction comparison cataloged as a Japanese bronze spherical lotus lantern, together with other documented Japanese spherical openwork lanterns. The exact metal alloy and production period of this example have not been independently verified, so the material is conservatively described as metal rather than guaranteed as bronze. The globe features openwork lotus leaves and flowers, surviving green and pink color accents, and a suspension loop at the top. The carved wood display stand is inscribed on the underside "Carved by A. L. Jackson 1981." This is a later display stand; the 1981 date should not be interpreted as the manufacturing date of the metal lantern itself. The identity of A. L. Jackson has not been independently verified. The wood stand has multiple significant cracks and splits, including through the upper lotus-form support and lower portions of the base. A butterfly/bow-tie style wood reinforcement is visible on the underside. The metal lantern shows age-related patina/oxidation, surface wear, loss of colored finish, and some irregular or bent openwork areas. Possible small losses cannot be ruled out. No hanging chain, candle holder, electrical socket, wiring, bulb, or other lighting hardware is included. Functional lighting use has not been tested.
