Released via avant-garde stronghold Cuneiform Records, Delta Flora (1999) represents a brilliant transatlantic collision of Canterbury-scene progressive rock and Pacific Northwest post-punk/indie experimentation.Hughscore was born out of the collaboration between legendary British bassist/composer Hugh Hopper (founding member of Soft Machine) and Seattle-based art-pop/experimental band Caveman Shoestore (featuring vocalist/keyboardist Elaine di Falco and multi-instrumentalist Fred Chalenor). The lineup is further anchored by drummer Tucker Martine (renowned producer) and features additional instrumentation from guests like Craig Flory (sax/clarinet) and Jen Gunderman.Musically, Delta Flora seamlessly bridges intricate jazz-rock structures, hypnotic bass fuzz, and odd-meter rhythmic grooves with Elaine di Falco’s soaring, melodic vocals and quirky synth work.
