Original vintage “Insta-Aid — First Aid at a Glance” rotating emergency first-aid reference guide distributed by Davis Emergency Equipment Co., Inc. The guide is marked: Copyright 1932 B. F. McDonald Co. A fascinating piece of early American first-aid, emergency-response, fire department, and occupational safety history. The circular internal selector rotates to display information for 20 different injuries and emergency situations through the viewing window. Topics printed on the guide include: Asphyxiation Alcoholic Poisoning Arteries Bleeding Venous Bleeding Internal Bleeding Burns Drowning Dislocations Electric Shock Fainting Simple Fractures Compound Fractures Skull Fracture Gas Poisoning / Monoxide Heat Exhaustion Rupture Shock Snake Bite Sunstroke Wounds The illustrated guide also shows arteries and pressure points for controlling hemorrhage and period first-aid procedures. ORIGINAL FIRE DEPARTMENT SLEEVE The original Davis sleeve is included and bears a period identification stamp: UNIT No. 369 Rescue Squad Clifton Forge Fire Dep’t This association makes the piece particularly interesting as a collectible related to vintage firefighting, rescue squads, emergency medicine, and Virginia history. The reverse of the sleeve advertises other Davis safety products, including first-aid kits, gas masks and respirators, safety equipment, goggles, safety clothing, and other industrial emergency equipment.
