DESCRIPTIONVintage black-and-white Hollywood publicity/press photograph featuring Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer actress Laraine Day posing in a Red Cross worker uniform. The reverse of the photograph retains a period typed publicity caption identifying Laraine Day as a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer actress and describing the different uniforms worn by Red Cross workers. The typed caption reads:“LARAINE DAY… Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer actress, poses in the different uniforms of Red Cross workers. Miss Day will be seen next on the screen in ‘A Yank on the Burma Road’ with Barry Nelson. The Production uniform is white broadcloth with navy blue cuffs and veil and is worn by those who knit and sew at headquarters.”The reference to Laraine Day’s upcoming appearance in A Yank on the Burma Road, released by MGM in 1942, is consistent with this being a World War II-era Hollywood publicity image, circa 1941–1942.The photograph shows Day wearing the Red Cross uniform beside a box of garments, with a Red Cross poster visible in the background.FRAME & SIZEThe photograph is currently displayed in a modern black frame, which is included with the purchase. The overall framed piece measures approximately 12 × 15 inches. Please note: 12 × 15 inches is the approximate outside size of the frame, NOT the measurement of the photograph itself. The photograph has not been removed from the frame for separate measurement. The manufacturer’s label on the back of the frame identifies:Harbortown Industries, Inc. Lake Forest, Illinois Production Date: 07/08/2015The frame is therefore modern and is not original to the photograph. It is included for display convenience and is not represented as part of the photograph’s historical provenance. The frame has hanging hardware/cord on the reverse. Please see photographs of the back for details.PHOTOGRAPH DETAILS Featured person: Laraine Day Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer / MGM American Red Cross subject Hollywood publicity / press photograph WWII-era subject matter Estimated period: circa 1941–1942 Black-and-white photographic print Period typed publicity caption on reverse Caption references A Yank on the Burma Road Caption references actor Barry Nelson Modern black frame included Overall framed size: approximately 12 × 15 inches CONDITIONVintage photograph in pre-owned condition with signs of age, storage and handling consistent with an older photographic print.Possible age-related imperfections include light surface marks, toning/discoloration, minor edge or corner wear, slight waviness/curling and other small imperfections. The photograph is currently behind the frame glazing, which may produce reflections or glare in some listing photographs.
