1931 L.B. Turner “Wireless” – Cambridge University Press Offered here is an original 1931 hardcover edition of: Wireless: A Treatise on the Theory and Practice of High-Frequency Electric Signalling by L. B. Turner, M.A., M.I.E.E., Fellow of King’s College and University Lecturer in Engineering, Cambridge. Published by Cambridge University Press in 1931 and Printed in Great Britain. An interesting early technical reference covering wireless communication and high-frequency electrical engineering during an important period in the development of radio technology. The book contains extensive technical material, equations, diagrams and illustrations relating to subjects such as wireless signalling, radio-frequency circuits, oscillators, transmitters, antennas and related electrical engineering principles. Interesting Ephemera Included A 1953 Washington, D.C. postmarked envelope was found stored inside the book and will be included with the sale. The envelope is addressed to a Washington, D.C. recipient and contains numerous handwritten calculations/notes on both sides. It has a 3-cent U.S. postage indicium and a visible September 1953 Washington, D.C. postmark. The relationship between the envelope, its recipient, and the original ownership of the book has not been independently verified, so it is offered simply as period ephemera found with the book. Previous Owner Notes The book also contains handwritten previous-owner notations, including technical notes/calculations on the rear endpaper. These have been left completely intact and may add interest for collectors interested in the history and actual use of early engineering books. Condition This is an approximately 95-year-old working/reference copy showing substantial evidence of age and use. The cloth hardcover has rubbing, fading, discoloration, worn corners/edges and fraying, particularly around the spine. The rear inner hinge is cracked/separated and the underlying binding material is exposed. Pages have expected age toning and some marks/notations. Handwriting is present inside the book. The accompanying 1953 envelope has considerable wear, writing, folds, staining/soiling and edge/corner damage. No restoration or cleaning has been attempted.
